The Leap Frog Tag Reading System is an innovation on how you can make your children learn how to read books. Does your child have difficulty to read because he finds ordinary picture books boring? But, would you rather have your child reading books that staring at the television screen the whole day?

These days the kids are simply not reading enough. I heard someone using the word “stupidifying” our kids in front of the TV these days. They do not read and expand their minds anymore. Do not think the TV is stimulating them, you are simply fooling yourself.

The system comes in two different color offerings, green and pink, and the range of Leapfrog Tag books is increasing from an opening selection of 15 to a current range of about double that. Books are available for varying age levels and tastes. For those with a classical education in mind, Dr Seuss’ Cat In The Hat and Olivia by Ian Falconer would be favourites. Entertainment savvy kids will be drawn to the movie/TV related titles (like Spider-Man, Ben 10, Star Wars and Dora) but rest assured all titles have passed Leap Frog’s standard which tend to be pretty high.

With a wide grip that’s perfect for little hands, the Tag reader adds a unique element to story time. The included book, Ozzie and Mack, features the rhyming adventures of Ozzie Otter and his playful animal friends. Text for this book is preloaded onto the Tag reader, so as soon as you load two AAA batteries (not included) into the reader, the story can begin. It also comes in pink for Leapfrog Tag Reader.

A little camera in the tip of the reader identifies words and symbols on the specially printed pages, giving kids lots of options. They can pick between starting a story at the beginning and having it read all the way through, playing a page at a time, or reading themselves and using the Tag reader to hear single, tricky words spoken aloud. This last option inspires kids to try reading books they might otherwise avoid, since the Tag reader is always there to help them out.

LeapFrog have assembled a special selection of Leapfrog tag books which have been prepared for the library. All of these are compatible with the system and contain highly loved characters as Square Pants, Sponge Bob and Kung Fu Panda . These known figures help children become involved with the reading. Arrangements has also been made with National Geographic Kids and this work has produced action cards that describe different animals. The audios created by the Tag Reader makes this experience very realistic for the children.

It’s also possible to connect to the online Leapfrog Learning Path and this enable parents to monitor what their child is learning and how they are progressing. This also makes it easier to plan the child’s learning stages and reading choices according to the level of reading skill that has been achieved.

Another feature the tag reader has is the ability to raise or lower sound and add headphones for more private use. This is an extraordinary example of what technology can bring to traditional reading, and how it can improve children’s reading skills.

Young readers may be too busy following the escapades of their new friends to realize they are building phonics skills, expanding their vocabulary, and improving their reading comprehension. The Learning Path can help you keep up with their progress. This parent-centered section of the LeapFrog connect computer application allows you to download education information from the reader to your computer and track your child’s progress. Use it to help customize your child’s unique learning journey and celebrate educational milestones.
